The strategies in this sections are categorized into 16 evidence-based practices to maximize instructional time and minimize behavior issues.

Establishing classroom expectations and procedures helps teachers maintain class routines and create consistent practices that allow the classroom to feel fair and safe. Classroom expectations and procedures should be clearly defined and posted help students understand what is appropriate and what is not. Expectations and procedures should also be taught and reviewed often. The resources in this section will support consistency in classroom practices.

One tool that can significantly impact positive classroom community is a reinforcement system. Using whole group positive reinforcement systems builds community, supports establishment of positive classroom environment, reinforces expectations and creates a feedback loop. It is very important that students understand what behaviors are expected and accepted in your classroom and what behaviors are not. By pairing a positive reinforcement system with your consequences system students are getting consistent feedback about appropriate and inappropriate behaviors.
